Woodhart has been appointed to extend the roof of the premises to create bed and breakfast accommodation. The project will also encompass expanding the restaurant to build an orangery over the pub’s courtyard. The orangery will create 20 extra covers and will be used as a breakfast room for overnight guests as well as a private dining space.
“The Ginger Pig is one of the best restaurants in Brighton so we’re thrilled to be carrying out this major development for them,” said Matt Woodhart, Director. “The Woodhart construction division is going from strength to strength and this will certainly be a flagship project for the company.”
“The building used to be a coaching inn back in the 1750s so we have always dreamed of bringing it back to its former glory,” explained Ben McKellar, Co-owner, the Ginger Pig. “We are currently using just a third of the building’s capacity so this construction project will really expand the premises and further enhance the experience of our customers. Guests can now be in our care for 24hrs as they may spend the day or evening in the restaurant, stay the night and then enjoy breakfast here the following day.”
Woodhart will be working with architect practice, Landivar, whose vision for the project includes features such as a zinc roof, solid slate floors and crittall-style doors. The work will take around six months to complete.
